Developable Mechanisms
Developable mechanisms are mechanisms that conform to a developable surface (such as a cylinder or cone). These mechanisms can be designed to embed within existing bodies, making them hyper-compact and capable of adding multifunctionality to single-use mechanisms and structures.
We are pioneering this new area of research, including identifying their characteristics, developing tools to synthesize them into cylinders and cones, and enabling them to be embedded into thick-bodied systems.
