FYE 5 – Studying, Pegula Ice Arena and the Future

This week has flown by. I’ve been extremely busy in both of my classes, spending most of my free time studying. With that being said, we’ve found several cool new study spots around campus. While we study mostly in the Hub, there are back rooms with chairs and an extra floor that most people here for the summer may not know about. Furthermore, we spend some of our time studying at the library. One of my new favorite study spots is the Biobehavioral Health Sciences building, when it’s open, because it’s quiet and has a great look over the Hub lawn. Another place that we’ve studied a few times is the Krause Innovation Lab.

On Friday, they allowed Penn State students to skate inside of Pegula Ice Arena. Coming from Boston, this wasn’t a problem for me. However, many of my friends struggled to stay on their feet for most of the night. Some of them even dragged me down with them! While I was expecting the friend from Florida to not be able to skate, I was surprised to learn that the most of my friends from PA couldn’t skate either! It was super cool being able to go inside of the arena and skate, as it was built not too long ago.

On Saturday, it was raining so some of my friends and I went to the Hub to watch Deadpool 2 on the big screen. It had one of the best movie intros I’ve ever seen, and it made me laugh a lot. It was definitely a movie worth seeing! Although they show movies weekly in the Hub to students, this was definitely one of the best ones that they have lined up for the summer. Maybe we’ll go watch Infinity War this weekend.

Sunday, I was given the opportunity to work for WVHL again, in association with the State College Spikes. The Spikes closer proposed to his girlfriend before the game, and they ended up winning in ten innings. However, because of the rain this week, we had a few production struggles. One of the main cameras wasn’t receiving or sending audio, so before the game started, one of the senior engineers on set had to switch out the cameras motherboard! We managed to stay mostly dry, and the game went by a lot quicker this week then it had last week.

I can’t believe that I’ve already been here for a month. It’s flown by, and I can’t wait for football games to start in the fall, which is only a few weeks away! I can hardly believe that the summer is almost already over.
