FYE 6 – The End is Near

I can’t believe summer session is finally coming to a close. It feels like just yesterday that I was packing up the car, saying goodbye to my friends, family, and dog, and headed off to college!

This past week, I’ve been once again swamped with work. On Saturday, three of my friends and I decided to cook dinner. One of them is from State College, so getting a kitchen wasn’t a problem. We headed out to the grocery store on our quest for Mediterranean steak.

As it turns out, there are no “Giants” in Massachusetts or in Florida, and exploring this grocery store was an adventure in itself for my fall roommate and I. As we began our quest for steaks, spices, chicken, noodles, salad, and sauce, our other two companions ventured out to get brookies materials. Brookies are brownie cookies, apparently, which are unreal.

We finally got back to the kitchen, and started cooking, We definitely tried to do too much at the same time, as boiling water was overflowing and food were burning. Despite this, we powered through and finished dinner, which was surprisingly good. As we began to create brookies, we realized we had no eggs, which prompted a second trip to the grocery store.`

It’s the random, spontaneous adventures into the wide world of college that I can’t wait to continue in my time here. Although I’m excited for the fall, I can’t wait to go home for a week. I miss my dog the most, and I’m excited to go up to Maine for a few days with my friends. Although we did this the week before I left, this time, all of my friends are going off to college at the end of the week. As much as we go on adventures here at Penn State, I miss our midnight journeys through scenic, coastal Massachusetts. And the food. I can’t wait to go home because the food in Boston is unbelievable. Although I have yet to try every pizza place in State College, I can safely say that I have yet to have good pizza since I’ve arrived.

I’m extremely excited for the fall. With student organizations starting up, I’m excited for my live production internship with athletics and hope to get involved with club baseball, club golf, one of the television programs on campus, and the 46Network (The THON livestream team). I can’t wait to make may new friends and experience Penn State football. I’m also excited to be in a class of over 300 kids this fall. We didn’t have big classes at my high school, and while Microeconomics is my only big class, I think that it will be a cool experience to have at least one lecture hall class.

Although I miss my friends, family, dog, and team, this summer has certainly been memorable. While my friends complain about being bored and wanting to go to college already, I’m already there!
