TED Talk Reflection

After watching the video of my TED Talk numerous times, I have found two major critiques, both of which stem from my lack of familiarity with what I wanted to say in my speech. Firstly, I have found that I look at the floor many times throughout my presentation. I did this when it seemed as though I had nothing to say or could not find the right word I wanted to use. Although it is okay to go off track slightly and pause to find your words, I filled this time by losing eye contact with my audience which caused myself to seem as though I lack confidence, which is a great segue into my second reflection point.

The second downfall of my TED Talk was my timid-like nature of presenting my claims. I did not seem completely confident with the material I was relaying and this most definitely took away from the message my audience would have perceived. If I were to do my speech over again, I would practice more and probably memorize more of my phrases so that I would not stumble over my words and I would seem more confident in my message. This would have a positive effect on the audience as well as myself as I would realize that I was doing well in my speech and continue to gain confidence throughout the presentation.

Aside from these points, if I were to have another chance to present my TED Talk, I would add more content to my speech. I would either add more detail about the points I already had in my speech or add more general supporting claims. I just barely surpassed the 4 minute requirement and would like to have added more information to strengthen my speech had I known that my presentation only fulfilled 4 minutes.
