The End

Hello all! This is the last passion post. While I am happy that I don’t have to squeeze a movie into my Thursday (I literally do nothing all week, but I still wait until the night before to watch and then write my passion post), I am sad that I don’t get to write this blog anymore. Of course, I could continue to write it in the hopes that I would become a famous blogger and then get a movie made about me Julie and Julia style (Have you seen Julie and Julia? It’s super good and you should if you haven’t already). If I’m being honest though, I won’t continue to write this blog. I have bigger fish to fry.

I didn’t want to talk about a movie for my last passion post. I wanted some finality. Since I’m sure you ‘ve all been wondering what movies I actually like to watch, I decided to reveal my five favorite movies! Try to contain your excitement.

5. Elf

I know you’re probably thinking why on earth is this one of my favorites? It’s a Christmas movie so normal people most likely watch Elf during the holiday season. I, however, am not normal. I love this movie and am always in the mood to watch Buddy the Elf on his journey to know his real dad. Even though the movie is over ten years old and I’ve seen it too many times to count, I will never tire of it. Elf makes me happy and as a child I would watch it whenever I was home sick. My favorite scene is when Buddy first arrives in New York City. Watching Buddy eat gum stuck on the side of a railing is disgusting, but so funny.

Elf is wonderful and you can’t tell me otherwise. It’s the greatest Christmas film. End of discussion.

4. You’ve Got Mail/Sleepless in Seattle

I love both of these movies equally and I couldn’t leave one of them out, so they both come in at number 4. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are rom-com gold. They go together like Ross and Rachel. I grew up watching Sleepless in Seattle and even at a young age I knew why Meg Ryan fell in love with Tom Hanks after just hearing him on the radio. Watch this scene and cry because it’s so beautiful:

I’m a hopeless romantic and I blame Nora Ephron for it. She is responsible for my undying love of romantic comedies and the majority of my favorite films have her name on them. I love her.

You’ve Got Mail is a film I recently discovered. I saw it for the first time last year and fell madly in love with it. Tom Hanks is kind of a “bad guy” in the movie, but not really. They Came Together parodies this movie more heavily than any other rom-com it makes fun of. Although not considered as great as When Harry Met Sally or Sleepless in SeattleYou’ve Got Mail still has the Nora Ephron touch.

Here is Tom Hanks telling Meg Ryan why The Godfather is so important:

3. Love Actually

I wrote about Love Actually last semester and I expressed how much I love this movie, so all I’ll say here is that Love Actually is a beautiful movie, Hugh Grant is lovely, and “love actually is all around”.

I may or may not be crying.

2. When Harry Met Sally

When Harry Met Sally is the best rom-com. Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are so great together. Nora Ephron wrote it. My love for this movie is eternal. Putting it at number two pains me, but it’s such a close second that it doesn’t even matter. I grew up hearing about it because it’s my parents’ favorite movie. I finally saw it for the first time when I was 15 and it was love at first sight. It’s so quotable and even if you don’t agree with the overall theme of the film (men and women can’t be just friends) suck it up and appreciate the love story that unfolds.

Meg Ryan is the queen of romantic comedies, tbh.

1. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is the best. Ferris is the best. Cameron is who I am. My brother and I love this movie and enjoy reenacting the baseball game scene. My love for Matthew Broderick began when I saw the movie for the first time on VH1. I wish I was more like Ferris, but don’t we all wish we  were more like Ferris? Also, that theory about Ferris being a figment of Cameron’s imagination. I hate this theory, but if you like it do you man. Anyway, here’s Ferris taking over a parade:

Last year, a kid I graduated with was in charge of music for homecoming week. The last song he played was “Danke Schoen” and he gave a shoutout to a teacher who hadn’t liked any of the songs played all day. It was probably the highlight of my senior year.

So there you have it. You now know which movies I think are the absolute best ever. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed writing this blog and hope you enjoyed reading it this past year. Bye!

Natasha, I have to say, watching this blog come to an end makes me sad as well. Throughout the semester, I have look forward to reading your posts every week, seeking inspiration for which films I could watch on my Friday night netflix binge. I loved all of the movies on this post (I, too, am an undying hopeless romantic). Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors, so it warmed my heart to see him pop up on the list, and “Ferris Buller’s Day Off” is one of my favorite films as well. Best of luck in your future movie-watching endeavors!
