Mission:

To feed each other, grow together, learn from one another, and take care of each other by cultivating engagement, education, and conservation.

 

 

Accomplishments:

Creation of a Sustainability through Culture project for Lionsgate residents, adding a garden representative to the Sustainability council, and finding a new home for the garden in the coming seasons!

Crops Typically Grown:

  • carrots
  • zucchini
  • basil
  • chives
  • cut flowers
  • and more!
 

Facilities: 

  • lumber for (4) 4′ x 8′ and (2) 6′ x 6′ raised beds
  • tool shed and equipment
  • 10′ x 16′ greenhouse, potting tables, tools
  • open and closed compost bins
  • picnic tables
  • bee houses and support poles

  • BIOL 120 student projects
  • BISC 3, EARTH 2 research 
  • Summer Science Camps
  • Environmental Advisory Council partnership for Ambler Community Pollinator Conservation Campaign, EARTH 2 and BISC 3
  • Campus grounds crew collaboration
  • Student organization involvement: Sustainability Club and SGA (SGA used the pumpkins for a ‘Punkin Chunkin’ event)

 

 

Community Partnerships:

  • Pollinator Conservation Campaign through maintenance of leaf cutting bee houses
  • The Nature Club installed portable pollinator beds as part of their Earth Day volunteer activities.
  • Summer camp kids conducted pumpkin patch research (and found gifts from the Great Pumpkin after hearing the legend!), planted vegetable beds and brought their harvests to the campus cafeteria, where the staff made soup for everyone!
  • Neighbors picked vegetables and flowers
