Below is a solution to the perennial problem of students surprised by clearly published policies–after final grades are turned in. Josephine Pirrone has generously shared the basic text she uses to make sure her students are clear and paying attention when they review policies in class. Thanks Josephine!

Syllabus Sign-off Sheet
I have read the course syllabus and understand the course content, requirements, expectations, and policies for ENGL 202A sect. 000, 000, 000, & 000. The syllabus, along with a schedule for course assignments is posted on ANGEL/Canvas.
The instructor has discussed the syllabus in class and provided an opportunity for students to ask clarifying questions regarding specific requirements and expectations.
I understand that is my responsibility to refer back to the written syllabus as needed for reminders of policies and procedures.
I agree to abide by the policies and procedures outlined.

Great idea Josephine! I just started doing the same this semester, but I also have the students include 5 takeaways from the syllabus that they find important to them. Hopefully this makes them spend a little more time actually reading it!
