Josh attended Texas A&M University for his undergraduate studies where he majored in Biomedical Sciences and minored in Neuroscience. He went on to obtain an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Penn State, working with Dr. Cheng Dong to study immunotherapies targeting glioblastoma multiforme.
Josh is currently co-advised by Dr. Justin Pritchard and Dr. Nikolay Dokholyan. His work focuses on designing light-controlled proteins that can be used to investigate cell signaling, with the goal of determining fundamental characteristics of kinases that will enhance pharmacologic interventions. He is also working with Haider to generate saturation mutagenesis libraries of various kinases and leveraging machine learning techniques to predict the structure/function relationship of mutant proteins.
In his (constantly diminishing) free time, Josh enjoys kicking soccer balls, arguing with friends over the rules of board games, and occasionally getting lost in a good book.
