Submit to ANGEL by 1:25pm on Wednesday, December 10th.
Penn State has so much to offer, and the goal of this assignment is to gently encourage you to take advantage of some of these opportunities and get involved here. The assignment isn’t formally due until the end of the semester, but the first part should happen this week, and then second part should happen throughout the semester. You can turn in your write-up whenever you finish.
This assignment has multiple parts:
1) Join a club [2 points]
This can be done at the involvement fair (we’ll go as a class), or you can view available options here. I’m not going to force you to stick with this club for the rest of your time at Penn State (or even the rest of this semester), but I do want you to go to at least one meeting.
(If you are stuck for ideas, consider the Stat Club!)
To turn in: A short paragraph addressing:
- Which club did you choose to join, and why?
- What went on at the first meeting? (this can be brief!) Was it worthwhile?
- Do you think you’ll remain involved? Why or why not?
2) Ongoing involvement [8 points]
Choose at least 4 events at Penn State to participate in. (There are lots of options, so this should be very easy!) Here is a list of possibilities, but please add other options via commenting there or emailing Dr. Morgan.
Try to choose 4 diverse events (e.g. an athletic event, a social event, an event focused on diversity/cultural issues, and an intellectual event could be a good combination) – don’t just go to four parties or four football games.
To turn in: A short paragraph for each event, and a picture of you participating! The paragraph can be a general reaction to the event, or if you want a little more structure, you could consider the following questions (not all have to be answered):
- Why did you choose this event to attend?
- What did you think of the event?
- What did you get out of it?
- Are you glad you attended? Why or why not?
The text should not be more than a page, the entire document may be up to two pages with pictures included.
