Mentoring

At present, this mentoring service is open to only novice scholars publishing in the fields of humanities and social sciences. We will add more disciplines for mentoring when we expand our pool of resource personnel.

We currently limit this service to novice scholars who are off-networked from academic centers and expert mentors. You will first submit the form attached below (titled Eligibility) to indicate your background and interests. You will upload your manuscript for review and mentoring after we email you to confirm your eligibility for this service.

This is not an editing service. We only offer advice on the broader issues of writing the article, such as organization, style, tone, coherence, and other rhetorical and discoursal aspects. After getting our mentoring help, authors are advised to get help from their colleagues or professional services to edit their articles closely before submission.

Only manuscripts that follow our guidelines listed in the document “Before you Submit” will be accepted for mentoring service. Also, do edit your article as much as possible before submitting it to us so that mentors will understand your arguments and objectives. If we find it hard to interpret your discussion, it will be difficult to offer feedback.

The service we offer is as follows:

  1. A senior scholar will read your manuscript and offer suggestions on how to make it suitable for your chosen journal of publication.
  2. If your chosen publication is not the best venue, the mentor will offer other journals for your consideration.
  3. We will also send electronic versions of important publications that might be important for your revision and the success of your submission.
  4. You are invited to write to the Coordinator for clarifications on the suggestions you received. You can also send your revised version for a perusal on the effectiveness of your revisions.
  5. You can write to us to consult on how to interpret the editorial decision and reviewer suggestions when the journal completes its review.
  6. You will submit the manuscript for publication yourself, making sure that you satisfy all other relevant requirements from the journal.
  7. The Consortium cannot guarantee that all submissions will be successful in getting published. We cannot take responsibility for the choices you make in revising your manuscript according to your own preferences. The mentors will not pressure you to make decisions in any particular way. We offer our suggestions for your consideration and allow you to make decisions that suit your interests.
