E. Steps after Acceptance of Manuscript

After a positive decision is announced, there are still important steps left in the publishing process. Authors should reserve some time for these additional steps. Here are some of them:

  • Copyright and permissions. Before the editors begins the process of editing the manuscript, they will ascertain that you have obtained permissions for any copyrighted images or quotations you might be using in your manuscript. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain the relevant permissions. The author will also be expected to sign forms permitting the publication of their manuscript and agreeing to the copyright arrangements for their article.
  • The journal’s in-house staff members or an outsourced company will work on the accepted manuscript to shape it into the publishing conventions and style conventions of the journal. They will also go through the manuscript carefully to check for remaining grammatical and spelling mistakes, and accuracy and completeness of citations and references. The editor will send the corrected manuscript to the author for acceptance of the changes. In rare cases, when an intentional grammatical or rhetorical choice of the author has been changed, authors can negotiate with the editors to maintain their preferred usage.
  • Proof reading. After the corrections have been negotiated and accepted, the journal will send the manuscript to the author to check the typeset copy for proof reading. Some unwitting mistakes in formatting or organization can sometimes happen at this stage. The author should be wary to point out such mistakes.
