Designing TED

Thesis:

A succinct articulation of your key idea.

Beginning:

Your first sentence sets the tone, energy, and creatively hints at, alludes to, introduces your topic and sets the introduction in motion.

  • Things to consider: Will you introduce the thesis/point of your speech in your intro?  Will you lead up to it and present it at the end? Will you use an image to “nail” the topic?

Body:

Consider the demands of your topic.  What strategies, arrangements of ideas would work?  How does your topic break into main ideas? Maybe you don’t think of them as main idea, but markers or signposts which, in delivery, will make your listener curious and engaged and carry them to a rich understanding of your claim.

  • CRAFT your message, choreograph the unfolding of your points to achieve maximum resonance. Think about how each point, unfolded can be engaging, enlightening, and satisfying.

Conclusion:

Can you smoothly, but clearly, transition to your end? How can you add emphasis to your major message?  How can this feel complete, satisfying, and resonant?
