PAS #10: All gLee’d up?

For my final passion blog post, I will talk a little bout last night’s episode. As I predicted, The New Directions glee club lost sectionals. According to the agreement between the club and the principal, glee club received funding only if they were victorious in sectionals and regionals. Unfortunately, they lost their choir room and many of the members joined other extra curricular activities. This was heartbreaking to see because these kids were like a family and I pondered briefly how the rest of the show will continue.

However, as Rachel reminded Finn, the new director, glee club is not in existence solely to bring home a trophy but to help shape and unite people who have a common love for music. With a very inspiring ending, all the glee members came together to show their support for giving glee club another chance.

Thank you for reading my passion blogs and I encourage you all the tune in next week Thursday on FOX at 9  to see a Glee themed Christmas!

PAS #9: Penn State Glee Club?

Normally, I post on my favorite television show, Glee on Fox that airs every Thursday night. However, as I submitted my most recent passion blog, I wondered if Penn State had a Glee club and I decided to research and find out. Here is what I discovered. Penn State’s Glee Club  is one of the most active and distinguished men’s collegiate choruses here in the United States. The Club was founded in  December 1888. Since then,  the Glee Club has toured throughout the United States with recent tours to Wales, Trinidad and Tobago (Caribbean :)), France, and California.  The Glee Club is Penn State’s oldest musical organization and is composed of 60-80 singers from all majors in the University. The Annual Homecoming Concert is a traditional capstone of Homecoming Weekend as returning alumni join us on stage to sing the football songs. The Glee Club sings music for men’s voices from the 16th to the 20th centuries, including sacred and secular works, folksongs from around the world, African American spirituals, traditional college songs, and songs of Penn State as well.

My only comment regarding the Glee club is that unlike the New Directions group on Fox, women are not accepted into the PSU Glee Club. Hopefully in upcoming years that will change, because I would love to join! Please enjoy this video clip of the PSU Glee club 🙂
