Throwin’ It Back To My First Library Visit!

As my final week approaches for summer session here at Penn State, I make sure to follow Professor Nichols rules about studying- the main one being never study in your room. When I first heard this, I initially pushed it off to the side and figured I’d be fine studying in my room because I survived high school by doing this. After a week of just trying to complete little assignments in my room, I knew Prof Nichols was right and there was no way I would be able to actually focus laying on my bed, or sitting at my desk with the dull lights making me weary. I had to get out, but the question was, where to?

Originally I tried going to the Hetzel Union Building (HUB) to try and complete some work. It wasn’t too bad, but finding a spot that was completely quiet and easy to focus in was pretty difficult. In addition to this, I usually saw somebody that I knew and I would end up having a conversation with them. Although it was nice to socialize with friends, it was one of the duckies that allowed me to procrastinate doing work for either of my classes. Despite the nice and close location of the HUB, I knew that I would not be able to give all of my attention to my work, and that is why I’m here, so it was time to find a new spot.

My new designation was to make the hike and go to the library. I was familiar with the location because it is very close to where my COMM 100 class is, and because of the library visit I attended with my CAS 100 class. In the library visit, I got a better feel for the layout of the library, and was shown where the main lobby was, where I would check books out, and I found out that there are 2 different wings because of how large it is! Also, my class sat down in the private computer lab and we got to see all of the online resources that are available for all PSU students. I decided to go for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it was the best studying decision I could have made for myself academic wise.

I went to the 2nd floor of the library and sat in the room that is known as the Harry Potter room. I sat down for 2 hours and completed all my homework for both classes while listening to relaxing studying music on youtube. Working in the library allowed me to experience a quiet and peaceful work environment that I had not been able to have before. I know that in my next four years to follow I will definitely go there to complete my assignments.

  1. The Harry Potter room is the Quiet Place. Make noise; they will come for you.
