Pandemic Relief

As we all know, the United States is still plagued by the ever-growing COVID-19 pandemic. Under the Trump Administration there was little to no aid given to the citizens and aspects like unemployment relief, mask wearing, accessibility to public services and more were rolled back. Therefore, it was like giving the COVID fire more oxygen and depriving the American citizens of their civic rights. With 10 million Americans unemployed, 29 million adults without enough food, 14 million renters behind on their payments putting landlords in distress, the country is far from recovering from this pandemic

After the 2021, Biden Inauguration he signed a multitude of Executive Orders. More than ten of which including pandemic relief and plans to better the situation and “forgive” the unemployed and desperate Americans. He called this a “wartime effort”. Biden also reinstated the United States into the World Health Organization after Trump removed the country from it during his administration.  Biden’s executive orders range from worker protection to domestic and international travel. There was a large focus on protecting and reinstating safety precautions instead of a focus of primarily the economy. Biden is also focusing on school plans and how to get kids back to school especially for K-12.

In terms of vaccination, the Biden administration had to create a new plan for wide scale distribution due to the lack of a plan in the previous administration. The goal is 100 million vaccinations in the first 100 days. The path to this is through authorizing the Defense Production Act that is typically used during wartime. It allows the federal government to have control of industrial production to produce more vaccines and supplies to give the vaccines (like needles, syringes, etc). The administration will also be setting up mass vaccine distributing centers across the country.

The need for wide spread vaccination becomes more prevalent.

Another important aspect that needs help is indeed the economic relief of many American citizens especially working class families. Within Biden’s recent executive orders he has asked the Treasury Department to change delivery structure to provide relief for more than 8 million more Americans. There will be added forgiveness and loan accessibility for small businesses, and especially minority business owners. The US Department of Labor is being asked to broaden the scope of those who can receive unemployment insurance and receive unemployment for an extended time due to circumstance.

COVID-19 has dramatically changed how businesses can succeed and operate.

These actions and many more will increase the ability for American families to stay afloat during this time and in turn increase the economy. There is typically the debate between putting more weight on growing the economy again or protecting the safety of American citizens. It is clear through the actions of this new administration that Biden is focusing on relief instead of protecting Wall Street. Once the primary focus of fighting against the Corona Virus is handled, jobs can reopen, stocks can grow, general health can improve, and accessibility to reliable food can also be revamped.
