Passion Blog #3 – Pebble Beach Golf Links

Similar to Bethpage Black, Pebble Beach Golf Links has gained the reputation of being one of America’s most amazing public courses. Many tour professionals claim that this course is the most beautiful course in the world. I personally believe that Pebble Beach Golf Links is perhaps one of the most prestigious and beautiful golf courses in the United States. It is located right on the beach in Pebble Beach, California where golfers have views of the entire Pacific Ocean. The course has been ranked number one in the United States by top golf magazines around the world. The course was designed in the Hotel del Monte resort in Monterey, California after its founding in 1880. After years of designing and planning, the course was fully built and open for business in 1919. The course has since been revised over the last century and features new holes and layouts.

The course is situated right on the water, giving golfers views of pristine cliffs and the waves of the ocean. But don’t let the beauty of the course fool you; the course plays extremely difficult, and when it’s a windy day, some of the easiest holes can become some of the hardest. Most notably is the 7th hole. The 7th hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links is a short 107 yard Par 3, but on windy days, the hole can “play” over 200 yards. There is a famous video of Tony Finau, a top-25 golfer in the world, hitting a 5-iron, a club that usually goes 200 yards on this hole. Due to the fact that the course is on the ocean, depending on the day, the course can either play quite easy or very difficult. The course is over 7,000 yards long, which is quite long for many professionals who may not hit it very far. But even for those who can hit the golf ball enormous distances, the terrain near the green can be very challenging. All around, the course is a true test of all parts of a person’s golf game.

The course has hosted several professional and amateur events over the years. Most recently was the 2019 U.S. Open where Gary Woodland was the champion. The course has hosted six U.S. Open’s since its opening in 1919. The course additionally has hosted the U.S. Amateur Championship as well as the U.S. Women’s Open. This course is a true gem for all golfers due to its breathtaking environment as well as historical prestige. But for any regular golfer that wants to play this course, it is quite challenging. Tee Times are very limited, as thousands of golfers around the world are desperate to play. Even if by chance a golfer is lucky enough to get a tee time, the fees are over $500 and fees to stay at the hotel are hundreds of dollars as well. But for those who are able to play the course, it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. For me, I know it’s on my bucket list of courses that I want to play.

  1. Similar to last weeks, I really enjoy how nice the site looks. From the design to the pictures and format that you place your paragraphs in, the site is very appealing to look at. I also like how you gave a solid background of the course in addition to some of its features and why it is special compared to other high level courses. One thing I would recommend for future posts is to add something as to why this course is special for you or if there is something that you specifically like about it.
