Topic: How to make an operational inclusive classroom?

Purpose: Right from this moment to the next 5 to 6 minutes interaction with you all, I will give you an insight into an inclusive classroom. Not only this, the basic things that need to be considered while thinking of such a classroom will also be talked about.

Thesis Statement: After the changing beliefs of people regarding the inclusion of the specially-abled, came a dire need to provide education for them. Also, to make education more effective for them, the then system needed to be reformed and equipped with suitable infrastructure, technology, teachers with advanced teaching methodologies and mainstreaming and hence, be able to provide education to them.

2. Nothing can be more powerful than your beliefs- The belief that every student can learn and that I can teach them is the basic key to start with inclusion.
3. Learning should be made more collaborative- It seems that children are able to learn more if they learn together. It is necessary that the children are taught to mix with others and be able to interact with them. It also needs to be taught to them and to ourselves that some tasks are harder for some people; it depends on strength and ability, but we need to learn that everyone has weaknesses.
4. The notion of ‘learning together’ is an important aspect- Segregation might seem great many times; just cut-off from the world and you won’t have to face them, but here in schools, we need to teach them how to interact with them, build relationships, learn responsibility by seeking help and helping others. It is important that we all have the same feeling of appreciation for diversity.
5. ‘Using what we know about how brains grow’ is likely to make us more prepared for what we are going to be a part of- Everyone is different and that is the way it works. Being in class, it is needed that we know others, take care of them, the way they like it. Also, brains seem to learn by making connections; so, it is necessary that we help these kids find one.
6. Reducing barriers to success- Interacting with others is a way of opening up. Not only that, it helps us to become a better person. For making this education system effective, we should pay attention to teaching kids the way they learn it better, providing them with tasks with various ability levels, and not judge them on a single basis.

 

1. The happiness that lies behind the sense of feeling a part of a community, the general education students is precious and worth investing all the hard work and time.
2. Membership, relationship, skills, etc.
3. Example of an eight-year-old child suffering from autism, being invited to a birthday party for the first time; the excitement that drives the child crazy with happiness and the smile on his parents; face; this is the benefit of inclusion.’
4. Inclusion is the celebration of diversity put into action.

 

With the advancement of technology and more people and organizations coming forward in this field, many reforms are brought in the regular classrooms, curriculum, and infrastructure in the recent past.
