Belly Button Piercings- Good or Bad?

Girls get their bellybuttons pierced all the time, for various reasons I guess but usually just because they look cute! I got my bellybutton pierced in the beginning of August because I had wanted to get it done for a while but my mom was so against it I had to wait. So, I’ve had it for a month and a half now and it still hurts. I know they said it would take up to a year to fully heal but I didn’t think it meant it would be sore the whole time. I clean it two to three times a day and take care of it. So at this point I’m basically concluding it’s infected or something even though it shows no other signs.
This website gives great cleaning tips and how to take care of a newly pierced bellybutton, as well as things not to do. If you mistreat your newly pierced bellybutton, it could heal crooked and scar, or even reject completely, causing an inability to get it re-pierced. Which is NOT what I want to happen at all so I’m doing my best to make sure it’s okay.
There are a lot of people out there who are oddly against bellybutton piercings for different reasons. My mom, for example, thinks they look trashy but hey, that’s her opinion. Other people seem to believe that it is just as dangerous as a piercing near your eye. This is due to the possibility of infection. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s possible but it’s just like any other piercing, right? Apparently not. The website I linked above gives other reasons why it’s more dangerous, like it can cause nerve damage and also diseases if the procedure is not done properly.
Really though, it looks cute so I don’t see the harm. I don’t personally know anyone who has had too much damage from one. Hopefully mine turns out fine!
