WMBA: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

By Angela Shershin, MBA Class of 2014

During the month of October 2013, the WMBA helped celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with various events.

To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the WMBA sponsored a “Coffee Buzz” for the entire MBA population.  In addition to coffee, hot chocolate and tea, cookies in the shape of the Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon were available for MBA students for an in-between classes snack.  Several students (including many brave men!) donned pink to show their support.

Then throughout the month of October, the WMBA partnered with Mallory Meehan (MBAA VP of Philanthropy) to sell pink bracelets with inspirational words, such as “Faith” and “Courage.”

Lastly, as a final event to end Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the WMBA hosted the “Walk a Mile For Breast Cancer” event.  In this event, participants walked around the Smeal College of Business to raise awareness about Breast Cancer.  Even some of the men bravely tried on high heels to help raise awareness at this event.  All of the proceeds from the month’s events went to the Centre County Breast Cancer Coalition.
