We are super excited to start a new project supported by Chesapeake Bay Trust on “Impacts of salt loading on nutrient and metal processing in stormwater bioretention”.

The project will combine greenhouse experiments on Penn State campus and field data collection in Lancaster, PA to understand how de-icing salts impact nutrient and metals processing in stormwater bioretention basins. We will be considering the impacts of basin hydraulics as well as plants in moderating observed responses.

Collaborators on the project include Shirley Clark, Hong Wu, and Margaret Hoffman from Penn State, and Sybil Gotsch from Franklin and Marshall College.

Additional partners include the City of Lancaster, and students working on the project are Bishwodeep Adhikari and Alex Brown.
