Giant Food Stores, LLC Headquarters Master Plan

 Carlisle, PA

Penn State Landscape Architecture undergraduate Honors student Grace Steward is working with Giant Food Stores, LLC and Penn State Extension Master Watershed Stewards to create a master plan for their headquarter campus along the Harrisburg Pike. Grace’s idea is to integrate Giant’s missions of eliminating hunger, changing children’s lives, and healing our planet to create a plan telling the story of pollination and food production.

02

Reserve at Union School Bioswale Concept Design

Mount Joy, PA

Penn State Landscape Architecture graduate Leslie Hendricks worked with Mount Joy Borough stormwater enforcement office and the Reserve at Union School Home Owners Association to create a concept design for a neighborhood bioswale. The design aimed to address concerns around controlling invasives, prioritizing a low maintenance design, and mitigating pollution. A mixed-method approach was used that included expert interviews, a plant choice framework, a design framework, local resources, and precedents to create a plant database to apply to the design. Community input was also collected through a survey to ensure that the design met the needs and concerns of most community members.
