Have you ever heard that there are women only beaches in Europe? In Turkey and Italy there are beaches that only allow women. It’s crazy to think that this is actually a thing. Considering this would never be able to happen in the United States and I don’t think I would want a women only beach. I have several guy friends and I like to go to the beach with my family. So if they said that my dad or friends couldn’t go on a beach with me I wouldn’t be that thrilled. However the women in Italy and Turkey have some good reasons for why they wanted an all women beach but I don’t think you should be allowed to ban another gender from a beach. Beaches are public places and should be open to everyone.

The women of Italy didn’t want men on the beaches because they were sick of “Italian men”. They said that Italian men would only come to the beach to try and find a girl. All they did was prey on women. The women on the Adriatic’s coast got sick of it and decided to create their own beach. No men or children are allowed on the beach just women. The women on the coast love it. They have different exercises classes, like water aerobics. They also have manicure and makeup tip classes! They also banned traditional beach food, fried food. They do have some men on the beach though. The men are all lifeguards. In an interview a women was asked why they had men lifeguards when it’s an all women beach and she replied by saying “ The lifeguard must be a man. You clearly need a man to save a woman in the sea. It’s a question of muscles”.

In Turkey, the beach Sarisu has been turned into an all women beach as well. The reason is very different from the women in Italy’s beach. The beach is a woman only beach because women wanted to feel more comfortable. Many women wear head coverings and try to be modest all the time. At this beach they can be comfortable wearing their Hasema bathing suits. Hasema bathing suits are a bathing suit that covers you from your head to your ankles. It hides all your curves. Women that go to the Sarisu beach also get in for free. The women wanted to have their own beach to protect them from sexual abuse and violence.

I really don’t think their needs to be an all women beach. I think everyone can enjoy the beach together. The women in Italy don’t really need their own beaches. After the women’s interview of her saying that men should be lifeguards because of their muscles, it shows how women don’t really want no men at the beaches, they just want certain kinds of men on the beach. I agree it does sound like you can have a great time on the Italian beach, but I think everyone should have the chance to have fun on the beach.
