Best of the Best

Just like I did last semester, I like to close out my last blog with a summary of what I’ve written throughout the semester, as well as a ranking for the various movies that I’ve watched.

This one might be more difficult, though, because many of them were my favorite movies to begin with.  I mean, last semester, I loved all of the Disney movies, but there were definitely some that were way higher quality than others.  Like really, Aladdin is just in a league of its own — it’s way too good to be compared to other movies.

Anyway, there are definitely some movies that I watched that I like way more than others.  For example, yeah, I wrote about Napoleon Dynamite, but I would never rank that movie anywhere near my favorite movie.  It’s honestly an awful movie.  The only real reason that I love it so much is that my friends and I remade it for Spanish, and I have so many good memories of making that.

With that being said, I’ll give you my top three movies that I watched this semester, and probably of all time.

1. Wedding Crashers

2. Hitch

3. Grease

I know, it’s certainly an interesting variety of movies, but I’ll give each one a little justification.

Wedding Crashers has to be my number one, probably because it is the movie that I quote the most of all.  For some odd reason, I’m one hundred percent obsessed with the movie.  I definitely really like the combination of Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, but the incorporation of Will Ferrell and the starring of Rachel McAdams makes it a top shelf movie for me.  By now, I’m pretty sure I have the whole movie memorized because I’ve seen it so many times.

I actually surprised myself a little bit by putting Hitch as the number two movie on here.  Reflecting back though, I really do love the movie.  Yeah, it has one of those sappy happy endings at the end, but it’s not that aspect that gets me.  I think I just love how smooth Hitch is as a person, yet he actually cares about women.  Sure, he’s a bit of a womanizer, but I love the fact that his business is all about getting two people to fall in love, rather than in lust.  I honestly think that Hitch is just one of those characters that you can’t help but love — you know he means well and that he genuinely cares about people, rather than those people that are just out to have as much sex as they can.

Coming in third, we have Grease.  I think this one has a bit of bias, mostly because of the sheer number of times that I’ve seen it.  It was my favorite movie as a kid and I think that will forever stay with me.  I do love the movie, though.  It is a classic and forever will be.

  1. Dodgeball is number one. No questions asked. Thank you for giving me not only the “Dopest” of Disney, but all movies as well.

WHY IS STEP BROTHERS NOT IN YOUR TOP 3?! It has to be in my top 3 because it is the only movie that my whole family can sit down and watch and all laugh at. Those two are the dynamic duo of comedy.

^ Pratiti lies- she’s not going to watch it. I cannot say that my list looks anything like yours but probably because you haven’t watched Dirty Dancing an upward of 20 times and don’t enjoy looking at Channing Tatum shirtless in She’s the Man (Or maybe you do ??) Either way I respect your list and am thanking god that you didn’t put Napoleon Dynamite on there. I will miss picking apart your writing and listening to your sassy comments in class. Good luck with the rest of your PSU career :'(

I agree that Wedding Crashers is the best combination of Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, however I think there a few of their own individual movies that rank higher than their famed collaboration. Wilson definitely has the leg up on Vaughn with movies like The Grand Budapest Hotel, Zoolander, and one of my personal favorites, Midnight in Paris (if you’ve never seen it, watch it). As for Vaughn, I love Dodgeball more than anything and you can’t forget about Old School or his cameo in Anchorman.

  5. Emma Price says:

I guess I don’t really watch movies, or at least the classics that you’ve talked about this semester, because I hadn’t seen most of these. But I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on all of your favorites, and actually watched a few based on your recommendations. Great choices!

  6. Pratiti Roy says:

What a good way to end the semester. I really do have to watch Wedding Crashers :/
I’ll get to it sometime, though. Thanks for all the recommendations!
