Global Asias Cyber Chat “Gendering Social Movements across Global Asia and Asian America” to be held March 7 via Zoom

On the eve of International Women’s Day, 3 scholars will discuss the role of women in social movements across Asia and Asian America.

Dr. Milian Kang, University of Massachusetts Amherst, will discuss the role of mothers in social movements, especially Asian American activism. Dr. Petrice Flowers, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, will focus on how 1990s Japan was a renaissance of activism, often led by women. Dr. Deepti Misri, University of Colorado Boulder, will consider women-led forms of activism and art in the context of the movement for self-determination in Kashmir.
