Investigating the Effects of Varied Dual Inputs for Novel Word/Symbol Learning in Individuals with ASD
Description: My research looks at the effects of different variations of input on learning in individuals with ASD. Specifically, I am looking at whether staggering the presentation of auditory and visual information affects the learning of word-symbol pairs.
Identification of Emotion in Music in Autism Spectrum Disorders
Description: In this study, we ask adults with autism spectrum disorder to view short animated clips and then provide verbal narratives and visuospatial reenactments of the animations. Our goal is to better understand the ways verbal and visuospatial working memory each contribute to memory formation and expression in autism.
Investigation of Semantic Processing in Context
Description: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of context on the processing of words in young adults with and without an autism spectrum disorder. The knowledge gained may lead to further understanding of the cognitive and linguistic processing of individuals with autism spectrum disorder—how they understand and see the world around them. The study is being conducted at our on-campus lab and includes the completion of some standardized paper and pencil tests and some computer-based activities. Participants receive compensation for their participation.
