Big Brother is watching you

I love my senior year in my high school. Even though I was suffered by so many things going on at the same time, I enjoyed it as busy as I was. One of the reasons was English class. In junior year, we learned World War l, World War ll, Vietnam War…, so the books what we read for the whole year was about war and soldiers. Despite whether I liked to read it or not, they were really heavy and dark especially for year-long.

However, as soon as I became a senior, books became lighter and more philosophical that we have to think deeply once more. My favorite book is 1984, written by George Orwell. I was literally by his description of the world in the book. There was no freedom at all for the public. I attached the summary of the book below.

He assigned one student in another section per person to watch them if they are working on what they are supposed to do. It’s because after everyone finished applying for college, everyone was exhausted and did nothing. He wanted to give us motivation.

Then, we made a poster of this book related to the SSS, Seniors being Safe with Sam -English teacher name. One group painted security camera like telegram in the book and attached it everywhere in Senior building. It was realistic, so at first, my friends and I thought the school installed it from a distance.

And another group made a poster of “Sam is watching you” by photoshopping Sam’s face and Big brother. Some made and played videos or news that announce SSS project is on and advertise telegrams. The other rewrote the ending of the book and displayed in at the hallway. Even though we forgot to watch other students, our participation in English class was at the peak.

When I got interested in one genre of book or written by one particular author, I tend to look for the similar one. After I read 1984, I watched a movie of it, found other short stories written by him. “Animal Farm” and “Shooting an Elephant” were other books that I read later on.

Honestly, I still struggle with English book sometimes, but there are so many stories that are attractive and I would like to read them all one day. And I hope everyone enjoy reading 1984.

  1. I enjoyed reading about your passion, and I am impressed from your enjoyment of 1984. Myself and most of my classmates didn’t like the book that much because it was a gloomy dystopia when we were used to reading happier books or ones that don’t make us question the overarching system that has the possibility of controlling us all 🙂

  2. The pen is mightier than the sword is something that will last forever and your blog shows the power of books and stories and how they can influence other people. Your blogs are lining up pretty well.
