Welcome!

Underneath the Canopy, by Karen Daly

This space is dedicated to showcasing the work of Abington College’s first Arts & Humanities Cluster. This cluster focused on creative representations of The Self. We have made public  some highlights of the students’ self portraits produced in the 2020-21 academic year.

Clusters at Abington College are designed to encourage students to see their General Education course work as a coherent whole. Our cluster integrated one section each of Art, Art History, English Composition, and Asian Religions. The four faculty and their students explored the theme of The Self from different vantage points.

We see the interdisciplinary blend of courses in cultural diversity, self-expression, and research as a particularly effective way of providing additional depth and breadth to students’ learning experiences during their first year at Penn State. We envision each cluster as an interdisciplinary and collaborative space that can inspire intellectual adventure and high impact pedagogical practices. The model is designed to enhance students’ ability to see things from different perspectives and develop strategies for teamwork. Central to the experience is team-teaching and  project-based learning.
