2DLM Laboratory:

The Alem Group shares a laboratory space located at the Materials Research Institute (MRI) at PSU.  The lab is about ~1,200 sq. ft. and is fully integrated within the MRI at Penn State.  This lab is part of the center for 2D Layered Materials (2DLM) and has the capabilities for synthesize a large variety of 2D layered materials, advanced materials characterization, and device fabrication and evaluation. The Alem lab space is equipped with chemical vapor deposition furnaces for the growth of 2D crystals. In addition, the lab is equipped with a fume hood, glove box, and optical microscopes for sample preparation and sample handling.

Materials Characterization Laboratory, Materials Research Institute, Penn State:

MCL holds a wide range of materials characterization equipment, including optical microscopy, Raman and PL spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopy (S/TEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and mono-chromated Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) as well as in situ heating and electrical biasing capabilities.
