Apps for E-books

You’ve got your iPad for class. You’ve got your reading assignments. Now what? There are several options out there for purchasing and reading the e-books required for Lector. Here are the two that I’d recommend for getting started (either one will do).

The first step is to download an app to use for reading the ebooks.

iBooks – this is Apple’s own app. Just like with iTunes, you can then purchase e-books through the apple store (your iTunes account) to view on your iPad. Outliers is priced at $9.99; The Filter Bubble at $12.99, and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks at $9.99. Tip: Be sure to select the e-book and NOT the audiobook, as both will show up in your search.

Kindle – Amazon’s app, designed for reading Kindle books, purchased through Amazon.com. Books must be purchased through Amazon’s Kindle Store (on Amazon.com) and then synced up with your iPad via the app and wireless access. The cost of the books through Amazon is exactly the same as through iBooks.

Once you’ve chosen your app, you can purchase the books, either through iTunes or Amazon and be on your way.
