The British Council makes education packs available to teachers as part of its “Schools Online Program.” The materials are intended to be used in schools to help students explore Chinese culture and language. You can download the PDFs in each theme for free. Some of the PDFs include exceptionally high-quality images.

The University of Victoria (British Columbia, Canada) also has a page on “The Chinese New Year”. It is a little bit of an older webpage, but the explanations of traditions are very straightforward.

An extensive site for teachers who like to teach about “The Chinese New Year” comes from Teachervision. Suitable for K-12, the resources on the site include lesson plans, educational videos, literature, language arts activities and more. There are some pop-up windows on the site, but access to most resources is free. For a monthly membership fee of $6.99, teachers get access to the full site. Teachervision offers resources on many aspects of Chinese culture and language – just search the site by keyword “Chinese.”
