Fall CUSP Criteria & Application

This workshop will advise students who are currently working on applications to Philosophy Ph.D. programs for the upcoming Fall Semester.

  • Selected students attend seminars regarding the graduate application process (writing sample revisions, statement of purpose preparation, program selection, etc.).
  • Students will also have the opportunity to meet with philosophy department faculty members and graduate students.

You are eligible to participate in the FALL CUSP GRADUATE APPLICATION WORKSHOP if you:

  • Are a member of a traditionally underrepresented group (including African American, Chicanx and Latinx American, Native American, Asian American, and LGBTQA+ communities) with United States citizenship.
  • Are a current undergraduate senior, college graduate (recent or otherwise), currently or previously enrolled in a Master’s degree program, or a working professional with an undergraduate degree.
  • Intend to apply to graduate programs in philosophy and have working drafts of the main materials required for graduate applications: a statement of purpose, CV, and writing sample.

APPLCIATION COMPONENTS:

Complete the online application form (below), which includes a your contact information, demographics, education, and details about your reference letter.

  • Please provide complete drafts of the following graduate application materials:
    • Statement of Purpose (1,000 word maximum)
    • CV/Resume
    • Writing Sample (5,000 word maximum)
  • One Academic Reference Letter
    • The letter must be from a philosophy faculty member.
    • The letter should be sent directly to cusppennstate@gmail.com
  • College transcripts from all institutions attended
    • These can be unofficial.
