Assignments for 7/02

THINK:

What do you think about the points raised in Monday’s discussion?
Have you ever thought about your life in these terms before?
If your life were a story, who would be writing it? Why?
Who should be writing it? Why?
If you decide you want to achieve something, what happens then?
Think about some particular goal you have:
What do you have to do yourself?
What else has to happen for you to succeed?

WRITE:

Short answers to the above questions (that you would be willing to read aloud in class).

Who’s writing my story? If you want to acheive, what happens then?
My story is my story, and nobody knows my story as well as i do. I feel I’d do a good job writing it myself. I mean i can’t really see anybody else writing it, it wouldn’t feel the same, or it wouldn’t be as true because writers always want to make it their story, since they’re writing it. Or they don’t make it “their” story but they put their own flare into it making it a spin off of your story, changing your story into a story of theirs. To reiterate, i would write my own story, and no one else would. If you want to achieve you are going to do it. That is if you truly want to achieve. If you feel you want to achieve, you might. But you probably won’t. Success doesn’t come easy, it’s not given or won, it’s earned. You have to apply yourself. You have to put yourself out there and not be afraid to take risks. If you play it safe your whole life you won’t get anywhere you want to be. Being out there and not caring goes back to you being you. Don’t ever be ashamed of what you are. You gotta do you at all costs. Achievement is a task for those who understand themselves. If you can put effort into bettering your efforts and staying true to what you believe in you’ll be as successful as you want. Success is an achievement in itself. Achieving happiness is successful. So wouldn’t you say success is when you achieve happiness? I might.

The discussion in class today definitely had me thinking. I now have a different view on what makes someone “good”. It all really matters about who you are comparing he/she to, and the objective standards and personal standards you have. For example, if you are comparing an average skier to someone who has never skied before, then the average skier would seem good. To an olympian skier however, the average skier might not be so good. I never have really thought about this before, but its gets you thinking about who really is good at what they do. Next, if my life were a story, I would say that currently my parents would be writing it. They have a major influence on what I do and where I go to school since after all they are helping pay the tab. Who should be writing my story to my life? Me. Only I know what I want so I am the appropriate author to the novel of my life. It is going to change soon though, since I am becoming more independent living on my own. If I ever have a goal I need to complete, it can some times be more challenging than it sounds. In order to accomplish them, you really just need to put your mind and time to it. I personally have to clear out all of the distractions and settle down and get it done. Nothing really is that hard if you devote time and patience to whatever it is. In order to be successful you need to be hard working, have a clear mind, and be passionate about what it is your doing. There is no point in doing something if you do not like it or you do not get anything out of it. Make sure the things you do in life are meaningful and most importantly bring you happiness because you are the only person who can make yourself succeed.
