“Western Europe has a long history. Within that history there have been a multitude of changes that have affected culture in the region. That culture has then been transported across the earth. Several time periods in particular have been influential: ancient Greece with its influences on modern language and government; medieval times with the start of modern education; the Renaissance with its focus on humanism, which led to greater self-awareness and an emphasis on human ability that lead to things such as modern science that provides the technology of today; the Victorian Era, which spread these ideas globally; and the European Union, which is working to both preserve traditional and shared culture and foster the exchange of ideas between nations.” (PSU-Lesson 12)
When looking at the quote above, what stands out the most to me is how over a long period of time, the culture of Western Europe has changed, for the better I must say. Thinking of the different cultural times I recall studying in middle school, the Renaissance period is what I recall the most.
I remember a coloring book I had purchased that included different images of the Renaissance period. Including the armor and weapons used; the castles and flags flown, also the clothes that individuals would wear.
The changes that occurred during the Renaissance period has given individuals the courage to have self-awareness to achieve great things. A great focus in science and technology.
Think of the world would be if we did not have all the technology and science advancements we currently use today?!
