When doing business on multiple continents, its important to understand the language and cultural difference between two people and bridge gaps so that it can make business transactions much smoother. So for example if your in Europe you need to make sure that you understand the business customs of a country like Spain and vice versa. “80 to 90 percent of the message we communicate or receive is nonverbal.” Another example is, “A smile is one of the most common examples of a facial expression in different cultures. While Americans smile freely at strangers, in Russia this is considered strange and even impolite. In Asian cultures a smile isn’t necessarily an expression of joy and friendliness but it can be used to convey pain and embarrassment. For many Scandinavians a smile or any facial expression used to convey emotions is untypical because it is considered a weakness to show emotions.”
I just wanted to share a few issues that affect global communications on a daily basis. Although there are many more, and with a a continuous growth of a globalized world, the importance of global communications becomes more apparent year after year.
