Hedglin Lab team member Grace Young joined Dr. Hedglin as volunteers to “tee off on cancer” for the 27th Annual American Cancer Society Coaches vs Cancer Golf Penn State Chapter Tournament at the Penn State Golf courses. Dr. Hedglin is in his second year as a Committee Member for the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs Cancer Penn State Chapter.
The American Cancer Society is the largest private, not-for-profit funder of cancer research in the United States, investing more than $4 billion since 1946. Thanks in part to the contributions of the American Cancer Society, more than 1.5 million lives have been saved in the US in the past two decades. In 2023, our Penn State Chapter surpassed more than $4 million raised for the American Cancer Society since our efforts began in 1995. A significant portion of this money stays within our local community, supporting many initiatives in the fight against cancer. I am very fortunate to serve our community through this great organization.
The Coaches vs Cancer of Penn State chapter hosts one-of-a-kind events throughout the entire year to support cancer research. Our largest annual event is the Coaches vs Cancer of Penn State Golf tournament and associated activities. Last year’s tournament featured a record number of golfers as both courses were in use for the morning and afternoon flights. Thanks to our sponsors, participants, and volunteers, this event raised nearly $200,000 in net revenue, a record-setting value.
