Penn State University Athletics – Applied Health and Performance Science is looking for 2 to 4 Penn State Kinesiology students to complete an internship working with Tom Morris – Assistant AD for Applied Health and Performance Science – Olympic Sports OR Andrew Nelson – Football Director of Performance Science and the Universities Sport Teams consisting of the following duties:

  1. Support assigned sport teams in the daily management of performance technologies, data collection, data analysis and applied research.
  2. Assist in the education of student-athletes regarding recovery strategies, performance optimization, and overall wellness.
  3. Develop and complete assigned projects that will contribute to the growth and innovation of the Applied Health and Performance Science Department and Penn State Athletics as a whole.
  4. Communicate and collaborate with staff members from other Sports Performance departments (Performance Enhancement, Sports Medicine, Performance Nutrition, and Performance Psychology).
  5. Interns would not be expected to travel and will work within a normal schedule on campus. Some hours may include games if responsible for running a technology system or collecting game data (we will work to make sure it fits the interns schedule).

State College High School – 9th Grade Fall Football Internships

State College 9th Grade Football

The State College Area High School is looking for 2 to 4 Penn State Kinesiology students (Women or Men) to complete an internship with the 9th grade football team’s offensive and defensive coaching staff. The internship will involve teaching-coaching-managing @ the 9th grade level with a 270 hour internship commitment.  Working with State College High Schools Football Program – consisting of 2 positions (offensive focus and defensive focus).  The Interns will be directly involved with all phases of the program, expected to have some working knowledge of athletics and football as well as meeting all Pennsylvania High School Certification requirements (responsible for certification costs) and clearance checks.   All practices (pre-season included / starting 2ND week of August), games and staff meetings are to be attended along with additional management and planning duties assigned.  There will be several spring staff meetings along with optional 2 day summer camps during the  2nd week of June and the last week of July (evenings 6-8pm).

 

State College High School – Fall Varsity GA Football Internships

The State College Area High School is looking for 1 to 2 Penn State Kinesiology students (Women or Men) to complete an internship with the VARSITY football team. The internship will involve the following (270 hour internship commitment – working directly with HFC as HS GA).

Helping to organize Special Teams Scout

Run the Scout team huddles

Possibility of coaching a position or assisting with another coach

Daily practice attendance of team members

Assist with audio/music schedule during practice

Gameday:

Assist with setting up cameras and headsets

Chart in pressbox or sideline to formulate tendencies

Recruiting:

Help to develop a database of college coaches

State College High – Area Rowing Fall &/or Spring Internship

State College Area Rowing is looking for an intern (women or Men) to assist in all aspects of team management and coaching. The intern will complete the USRowing Level 1 coaching certification (the cost will be covered by SCAR) and SCAR coaches will teach the basics of rowing technique and equipment rigging/maintenance. The intern will attend all practices and regattas.

On-the-water practices run from late August to early November and from mid March to late May, 4 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 4:30 until about 7:30 and Saturday 8am-10:30am) and Tuesdays at the high school for dry land training (4:30 until 6:30). SCAR coaches can arrange rides to Bald Eagle State Park for on-the-water practices, so no car is required.

Off-season practices run from early December to mid-March, three days per week at the high school.

The intern will need to complete all PA High School certifications and checks.

Prep and team management:

Assist in regatta registration

Assist in developing workout schedules

Assist in setting boating lineups

Learn basics of boat and equipment rigging and care

Practice:

Run dry land training at the high school

Assist with on-the-water practices at Bald Eagle State Park

Race days:

Assist in schedule management

Nittany Valley Sports Centre is looking for 2 Penn State Kinesiology students to complete an internship with the COED sports complex.  Interns will assist the management staff in executing daily operations.  These include scheduling, facility management, program assistance, incorporating and designing new programs, hosting tournaments, and interacting with the local food and hotel industries.  Interns will work directly with Director of Major Events – Sean Kader.   *CLICK on link below
