Kaufman New Initiative Grant

We have been awarded a $300,000 grant from the Kaufman Foundation to develop machine learning approaches to develop a way to study the geometry of spacetime near black holes using gravitational-waves and artificial intelligence. This project is in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Scientific Computing Laboratory, of Prof. Romit Maulik .

NASA Award to Advance Open Source Software Infrastructure for Simulations

Our group has been awarded a $918,560 to support the development of AthenaK in collaboration with Jim Stone (Institute for Advanced Study), Drummond Fielding (Cornell), Goni Halevi (Illinois Tech), Eve Ostriker (Princeton), and Zhaohuan Zhu (UNLV). AthenaK is an open source code for computational astrophysics. These funds will be used to advance the simulation capabilities of AthenaK and to support its growing user community. As part of this project, we will host an AthenaK summer school: details will be announced next year.

See the Penn State announcement for more information.

Congratulations to Erum and Patrick!

Erum Vohra and Patrick Bush III have presented the results of the REU work they have done with our group over the summer at the Eberly College of Science REU Symposium. Their posters (shown below) and flash talks attracted a lot of interest!
