When was CHAPS established?
CHAPS was established in the 1980s by an agricultural professor looking for help to work on his horse farm.

What is CHAPS all about?
CHAPS, the Collegiate Horseman’s Association of Penn State, is a club dedicated to fostering a community for students interested in horses. The organization provides opportunities for members to engage in various horse-related activities, including hands-on opportunities down at our very own Penn State Quarter horse farm.
More than just a club, CHAPS is a community where like-minded individuals come together to share their love for horses. Whether through game nights, mare groomings, or social gatherings, members forge lasting friendships and support one another in their future endeavors.
At its core, CHAPS is dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie among students who have found an interest in horses. Through collaboration, learning, and shared experiences, the organization empowers its members to grow as individuals within the Penn State community.

How does CHAPS contribute to the Equine Science Program?
CHAPS contributes to the Equine Science Program in several meaningful ways. Through CHAPS, students can connect with peers, faculty, and professionals in the equine industry. The club hosts events where members can interact with guest speakers, alumni, or industry experts, allowing them to build valuable connections. With this, CHAPS also helps to promote and raise awareness of Equine Science Program events. Through club meetings, social media, and word-of-mouth promotion, CHAPS members encourage participation in activities outside of the club such as research projects, internships, and study abroad opportunities.
Overall, CHAPS plays a vital role in enriching the student experience within the Equine Science Program at Penn State by fostering student engagement, facilitating networking opportunities, and promoting program activities.

What are some accomplishments that have come from or pertain to CHAPS students?
Students involved in CHAPS achieve numerous accomplishments. Many members take on leadership roles within the club, serving as officers or event organizers. CHAPS members often work closely with PSERT, and therefore, have opportunities to engage in research projects or related activities. Various students in CHAPS have also secured internships or other career opportunities in various sectors of the equine industry including equine management, veterinary medicine, equine photography, and much more. Through their involvement in CHAPS, students have demonstrated their commitment to the equine community.
