Capstone Project Process

The Capstone Project Process:

Step 1 – Identify faculty supervisor for Capstone Project and provide that individual’s name and Penn State e-mail address on the application. If the student needs assistance finding and securing a faculty supervisor for the project, he or she may contact Brian Soulé at bjs48@psu.edu for assistance.

Step 2 – Provide detailed capstone project concept on Capstone Project Application, to be reviewed by the Committee. Included with the Application is the list of supplemental courses proposed by the student.

Step 3 – Once the Application is approved, the student’s adviser will help the student enroll in RPTM 496, Independent Study, for 3-6 credits (credit amounts determined by the Committee upon review of the application). The student will also enroll in the approved supplemental courses that were submitted in the Application and approved by the committee. The supplemental courses may be completed in concert with the research/agency project.

Step 4 – Work on Capstone Project with approved Faculty Supervisor over the course of an entire semester.

Step 5 – Submit final Capstone Project to Faculty Supervisor for review and grading.

Step 6 – The student’s adviser will upload the course plan into the student’s Starfish advising notes with the subject line of “RPTM Capstone Project” and e-mail that plan to the faculty supervisor of the Capstone Project.
