A Capstone Project should represent the culmination of one’s education and training in an academic program. A student should be able to demonstrate expertise on a topic and should utilize the knowledge and skills learned in the RPTM curriculum to conduct research, to work with an organization/entity/event within the field of RPTM, or to write an extensive literature review of a particular topic.
There are two (2) options for the Capstone Project:
The first option is a “Research Project” in which the student conducts a literature review on a certain RPTM-focused topic and conducts research on that topic.
The second option is an “Agency Project” in which the student works with an agency within the field of RPTM on a project that will benefit the agency in a significant way.
Application
Students must submit an application to gain approval for this option. Similar to the RPTM internship, the capstone project is just that – a capstone of the student’s education. The pre-requisites remain the same for both the internship and the capstone project. Students must have a minimum of 89 credits, earned a C or better in RPTM 394 and RPTM 456 and have a current minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA to apply. Students must also have completed the 300 hour requirement (or received a waiver by the Internship coordinator for the 300 hours).
Those who are approved the project option will enroll in a 3- or 6-credit independent study for the project. These students are also required to successfully complete supplemental credits of coursework that complement the capstone project. The capstone project plus supplemental coursework must total 12 credits to be substituted for RPTM 495A. In the application below, students must provide a list of the proposed coursework (independent study and support courses) and justification for each course. The course list must be approved by the Committee (as defined below) prior to enrolling in this option.
