The RPTM internship program offers resources to students so that they may research, apply for, and select an internship site that is most appropriate for their career interests. The Penn State RPTM internship program welcomes agencies to recruit RPTM students for internship opportunities.
Internship Agencies
In order to be eligible for participation as an approved Internship site, an agency must:
1. Be professionally recognized and competent in the provision of recreation, parks and tourism, or in specific related areas.
2. Offer opportunities for the Intern to observe and participate in a variety of aspects of their programs, operations, and administrative procedures that correspond with a given student’s educational needs.
3. Have facilities and equipment that conform to contemporary standards and are appropriate for meeting student needs, based on the specific setting.
4. Employ staff members who are qualified, through education, experience and/or certification, to provide supervision to Internship students.
5. Have sound administrative procedures in the areas of budget, public relations, personnel policies, operations and maintenance, in-service training, etc. and have the ability to expose students to these management tasks and duties.
6. Provide resources necessary to support the efforts of an Internship student. Specifically, the agency agrees to provide materials necessary to complete a special project and to allow the student to make essential phone calls and/or send emails to their Faculty Supervisor.
How can I recruit Penn State student interns?
A current listing of internship and job opportunities is sent to the RPTM Undergraduate ListServ every Friday.
If you have a job or internship that you would like us to post, please complete this survey which asks about major responsibilities, compensation and/or perks, application process, deadlines, and contact information to Patricia Kleban, Internship Coordinator at plk4@psu.edu. The information will then be forwarded to our email list of RPTM undergraduate students.
Please do not send PowerPoint presentations, flyers, hard copy brochures, or posters.
The best times to send announcements are:
- September/October for spring internships
- January/February for summer internships
- March/April for fall internships
