January 31 Deadline – Primary Care Scholars Program Application at Hershey College of Medicine

Hershey College of Medicine’s Primary Care Scholars program, May 20-31, 2019

  • Only if you have a sincere & genuine interest in becoming a Primary Care physician, and are a sophomore, junior or senior who will graduate in August, 2019, then read on…
  • Applications are now available at room 225B Ritenour Bldg. for Hershey’s “Primary Care Scholars’ Program for 2019”.  See Program Overview below.
  • Important Note:  A reference letter from someone in your home community or college community is required. Include the sealed, signed envelope from your “Community Letter Writer” with your application.  Last, you drop off the full application set at 225B Ritenour Bldg.

*Do NOT mail applications to Hershey. We anticipate 10 nominees and an alternate will be sent from the Premed Office.  Final selections are made by the program overseers at Hershey.

Penn State PreHealth Advising will provide the “Pre-Health Adviser” letter.  Our internal deadline for your fully completed application is Thursday, January 31st 2019. 

 

Program Overview

Students will have numerous opportunities to interact with medical students and faculty, and to learn about the philosophy and practice of primary care within the disciplines of family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics.

The first week of programming will expose students to Penn State’s College of Medicine and primary care in large and small didactic groups and seminar presentations.  The second week will be spent in the office of a family physician, general pediatrician, or general internist.  If the student chooses, this could be a location near his/her college or hometown.  The Hershey folks will do their best to accommodate your requests in matching with preceptors, but they do encourage you to select preceptors you may already know.

Preference is given to Pennsylvania residents, students of under-represented groups and/or those interested in practicing in an underserved rural or urban area.

Additional info:

  • There is no registration fee.
  • Participants will be responsible for meal and incidental costs.
  • If the student wishes to stay on campus in 2018, there was a housing charge of $150* in advance – the 2019 information is pending.
  • Documentation of updated immunizations will be required before participation in the preceptorship.  Past students were able to get copies of their records from University Health Services.
