Congratulations to Nicholas Gailey (PhD student, START) for earning the 2024 Allan J. Brockett Pratt & Whitney Award! Nick was provided the award for his outstanding contributions to the recent durability project completed in START identifying new cooling blade designs.  Nick dramatically improved the speed at which thermal images can be evaluated as well as improving the overall quality of the data.

The Brockett Award was started in 2013 to honor a student with significant research and outreach contributions during their graduate career and to recognize the significant support given to Penn State by Mr. Allan Brockett, former VP of Engineering at Pratt & Whitney.

Nick received the award during the annual Pratt & Whitney Center of Excellence review held at Pratt & Whitney in June. Dr. Atul Kohli, Principle Technical Fellow in Heat Transfer at Pratt & Whitney (left) presented Nick (right) with his award.  Dr. Kohli also serves as the Technical Focal for the Pratt & Whitney Center of Excellence at Penn State.
