I love that the people who designed the Emotional Intelligence quiz made it something that you take twice. The goal is not to simply be aware of your own EI, but to learn how to be more aware, make the changes, and then retake the quiz and see how you’ve been able to implement those changes. I took their advice seriously after the first quiz, and have been using it regularly in my daily interactions, so I was not surprised that my score increased significantly the second time. However, I know that it wasn’t just that I’ve suddenly become more emotionally intelligent – part of the reason for my score increase is that I’ve become more confident and more able to honestly and accurately rate myself on the things that I’m good (or bad) at. I know when I took the quiz the first time, I felt awkward about giving myself the highest rating in a category, even if it was true; I wasn’t comfortable saying that I “always” did something, or “never” did something, so I would go with “usually” or “sometimes” instead. This time, I gave myself the benefit of the doubt, and had the confidence to answer the questions without second guessing myself.
