Our Paired Families
Club XC is proud to be paired with four awesome families through THON’s Adopt-a-Family program: the Justin Kaufman, Gideon Fisher, Corban Potter, and Bryce Carter families. Get to know them better with their stories below!
The Potter Family
Club XC’s newest paired family, the Potter Family, is full of joy and lots of fun. They have brought countless smiles to our teammates as we make many new memories.
As our BMX biker pro, Corban has brought a new obsession with Hill Climb Racer 2 to our team and constantly amazes us with his energetic shenanigans. We are blessed to be able to say that Corban has been cancer free for 7 years! Corban often spends time racing with older brother Jay, who often teaches us many new bike tricks that we could never do.
One thing that Club XC likes to do with the Potters is run. We love to cheer on Manna at her track and XC races, and are constantly amazed at her super speedy times. We also love cheering on Jodie Potter, who recently ran 1000 miles in 2019!! Club XC is excited for countless more memories to be made with the Potter Family for many years to come.
The Kaufman Family- Our Legacy Family
Also known as our Team Dad, Justin is a both a close friend and mentor to many on Club XC. We have been honored to be paired with Justin for over a decade and every year we get to add more wonderful memories together. You might be able to catch Justin hiking, eating waffles at the Waffle Shop, or volunteering at his church. Time and time again he has surprised us at our races!
Diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in 1989, Justin experienced the life-saving care of Hershey Medical Center and the Four Diamonds fund from a very young age. Now over 20 years cancer free, Justin is still giving back through THON and other organizations working towards a cure for pediatric cancer.
Over the years, Justin has become not only a mentor but a close friend and we can’t express enough how much we appreciate his wisdom and his love for doing life together.
The Carter Family – Our Legacy Family
Bryce, age 18, has fought and won a battle most will never experience. Around age 12, Bryce was diagnosed with Periosteal Osteosarcoma, a very rare form of bone cancer. Now pursuing nursing at Harrisburg Community College, Bryce is over seven years cancer free, and cured! Bryce loves all things soccer and sports, and has also given back greatly to the Four Diamonds Fund through Lower Dauphin’s mini-THONs. He is supported and celebrated by his lovely parents Ian and Heather Carter, as well as his younger siblings Keegan and Olivia.
The Carter Family has been a legacy family since January 2019. Bryce has moved into new goals and new life adventures and we are excited to celebrate him on in this next chapter of life. As they focus on new goals and new places, we are honored to have been a part of his story!
The Fisher Family-Our Legacy Family
The Fisher Family is a huge source of inspiration for Club XC. Since Gideon Fisher was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the Fisher Family has inspired us in their wisdom, strength and service to others. We are so happy to announce that Gideon’s last treatment was on September 18th, 2018!
The Fisher Family often spends their time volunteering with causes they are passionate about, even spending Christmas Day serving others! Gideon is very excited about playing soccer. He spends his free time playing video games with his older brothers, Isaiah and Gabe, and is loved and supported by his parents Mark (otherwise known as Fish) and Christy.
The Fishers became a legacy family in May 2023. We were so sad to see them go but excited as Gideon and the family takes on new adventures, challenges and we are cheering for them in whatever they do next!
