Today we got to visit the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) as our first stop of the day. While we were there we got to tour the radio and television facilities and sit down and talk with Mr. Puso Raselekoane about what the SABC is like today. Afterwards we got the opportunity to visit the Market Photography Workshop, a place where people who want to learn more about professional photography can hone their skills. We sat down and listened in on the students explain their photography and how they are trying to “tell a story” with their work. Next we drove out to Pretoria FM to learn more about how they are a community radio station. We all learned much from talking with an Afrikaner station; things that we will carry for the rest of the trip to better understand South Africa as a whole.
That night we got to celebrate the birthday of a very special person; Samora-Machel Meletse. Samora has known Dr. Olorunnisola since the early 2000s and always takes the time out of his busy schedule to drive students. But he is more than just a driver; he livens up the trip wherever we go and provides insight with his life experience. Traveling with him is always a joy, especially when he becomes DJ and turns on the music. Happy birthday Samora!
