OLEAD 410: Leadership in a Global Context

My name is Jamie Miller; I currently live in a suburb of Austin, Texas, called Pflugerville. I have been married for 24 years, and we have a 21-year-old son. My close-knit family also consists of one dog and three cats. I am currently a senior (graduating this semester) pursuing my B.A. in Organization Leadership with a minor in Labor Relations. I have taken several of Dr. Redmond’s classes, and I am looking forward to this one, as well.

Something interesting about me is I am adventurous. I have skydived, bungee jumped, been zip lining in Mexico, swam a mile in an underground river, etc. I love warm weather and beach/water activities.

I did not start my academic journey until I turned forty.  I have asked myself the question, “Why are you making the choice to attend college as an adult student?” a million times. I have finally come to the conclusion, why not. I am not getting any younger, and this is something that I want for myself. I have worked for the same consulting firm for the last 19 years. I am currently the Vice President of Billing Operations and responsible for all business operations of four different companies owned by the same parent company. I am currently in a leadership position and hope taking this course will provide me additional tools when working with a diverse workforce.

My name is Alejandro and I will be graduated the  next Summer 2020 with major Labor and Employment relations. After I will pursue a Master degree in Human Resources. I am taking this course because is a requirement of graduation and this is the second course of OLEAD I am taking. I live in York Pa with my wife and son he is studying also in Penn State York. I  in my time off like to play chess and do exercise with weights and Tai Chi and I also like to cook and bakery. Hi Everyone!

My name is Tia Moeller. This is my final semester before I graduate. I will be graduating with a degree in Organizational Leadership. I have really enjoyed this subject matter. When I originally started college this was not an option for a major, which is why Penn State World Campus was so attractive to me. I am the General Manager at a high volume ice cream store in Venice Beach, CA. I have a staff of 25-30 people and have found that studying Organizational Leadership has been immediately applicable in my life. It has helped me and my staff grow and reach our goals.

I love sports (excited football is back), traveling, theater, and anything that takes me out of my comfort zone. I have had the opportunity to travel all over the world, which I find has been very educational. This is one of the reasons I’m super excited about this class. We are becoming so much more connected and I think it’s important to open our minds and have a diverse point of view.

My name is Syrita Beverly, everyone calls me Sy. I am excited to say this my final semester, come December, I will have earned my BS in Organizational Leadership. I have taken several of Dr. Redmond’s courses and I enjoyed every class so I’d thought why not end my World Campus journey with him.

I am from Philadelphia Pa, and I have two children my son (Hayden) is 7 and my daughter (Chloe) is 4. I decided to come back to school for my children and I am very happy I chose Penn State World Campus. Over the last two years, I have learned how to balance my school/work/personal life. I am here if anyone needs help trying to figure out how to do it.

Hello, my name is Daniel Murphy, I will answer to any variation of my name as is fairly common and most people  know someone named Dan, Danny or Daniel.

I am returning to school after a seven year break, getting your education is expensive! have been taking classes as I can off and on since 2004 and will need 24 more credits after this semester to complete my BA in Organization Leadership.

This past spring I moved, with my husband to Cincinnati Ohio and left my entire world behind. Prior to that I had spent the previous eleven years working for a small marketing company in the middle of nowhere NJ as the Director of Fulfillment Operations. I love my job and the people I worked with, it was hard to say goodbye but we make sacrifices for the ones we love. The opportunity to relocate was a great one for my husbands career so here we are. Try ing to find work without my degree is proving a lot more challenging that I thought it would with m y nearly twenty years of leadership experience. In this digital age where you are whatever boxes you check it simply is just what it is. In my free time I am a nerd and play table top games, trading card games and work part time for a local vendor at events which take me out of town once or twice a month.

I am excited to be in this course as I have lead many people from many different backgrounds in my career and though my experience has value and thought me a great deal I feel a formal understanding of many of these concepts will help pull everything together.  I wish you all a wonderful semester!

I am a mom of three teenagers, wife, full-time manager, student, and yoga lover. 🙂

As I enter into my senior year, I realize how much I have enjoyed my major course requirements, and am excited to potentially graduate next August with my BA in Organizational Leadership. My work offers a diversity and inclusion program, that I am currently enrolled in and excited to learn more and see if there is overlap between the program and this course.

My name is Marisol Adames and I am currently pursing my B.A. in Organizational  Leadership. I have my A.A. in Early Childhood and Education.

I am a mother of two amazing children, my son is currently in Barber school and my daughter is in college for her A.A. in Biology.

I am a Head Start Director in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia. I’ve been in the ECE field for over 18 years. My future goal is to open my own business working with ECE children and their families.

Hello Classmates.

My name is Steven Noll and I am from the Reading, Pennsylvania area. I live in a small borough just north of the city. I am attending Penn State World Campus pursuing a BS in Organizational Leadership. I need 16 more credits to graduate.

Currently, I work full time as a Firefighter. I honestly can say I love my job. I have been a volunteer firefighter for almost 25 years and a career firefighter now for 7 years. I dedicate much of my time to the community. Besides volunteering at my local fire department I am a non-paid assistant coach for the Junior High Girls Softball team. If it doesn’t seem that I am busy enough, I am an elected official in my borough as a Borough Councilman. I have 2 more years on my term.

During this semester I will be travelling to the National Fire Academy in Maryland for 2 weeks in October and then in November I will be traveling to New Mexico for training. One cool part of my job is that I take the opportunities to travel to do training. I have been to Colorado 4 times.

I look forward to expanding my leadership knowledge this semester.

My name is Elizabeth Steil.  This is my first semester at Penn State University and I am pursuing a B.S. in Organizational Leadership.  I worked in politics for a number a years before entering the private sector.  I currently work in the government operations division of a large aerospace and defense company.

I recently married and live in Washington, DC with my husband and our dog, Payton, who is named after Walter Payton (anyone from Chicago?).

Hello! My name is Eric Anderson, I’m originally from the Philadelphia area, and I live in Brooklyn, NY. In my current role as Director of Client Services, I lead the customer success team for a software company that helps non-profits run great fundraising events. I’ve evolved my team from the early startup days (picture three people working side-by-side in an apartment) to a headcount of 70+ individuals across over a dozen cities. This role, which I’ve been in for 6 years, has been my first management position and I’ve grown increasingly excited and passionate about my personal development as an effective leader. My ultimate goals are tied to senior leadership in innovative and socially conscious technology teams, so I’m looking forward to learning everything this course has to offer!

Outside of work, you can find me performing as a piano accompanist and musical director or spending hours at the dog park with my crazy little mutt named Penny.
