Mother of Pearl

(1)

Remember!

In the Name of the Sky, Remember!

In the Name of the Earth, Remember!

In the Name of the Seas, Remember!

When the Heavens on High had not yet been named, and the Earth was nameless,

All was Void, except the Primordial Seas,

The Tenebrous Abyss, the Womb of Creation.

Oh Lady of the Night!

Oh you Who bore all!

All Waters are as One in you.

Before destinies were decreed, and the Stars remained nameless,

As an act of Love, the Primal Mother fashioned a luminous pearl within her womb,

It was then God had been formed,

For countless Aeons he grew in her womb.

Oh Lord of the Day!

Your ceaseless stirrings disturbed her belly.

Surging to and fro, he sought to burst free,

The Mother of ten-thousand faces was speechless,

His ways were contemptuous to her, for he broke the rule of Silence.

Filled with Madness & Hatred, she cut her own belly open, splitting herself in two.

The Pearl now stood in complete darkness,

A rainbow of fantastic colors shone forth from its core, and he gave himself form.

From One form came his Legion of Angels.

The Lord used one half of his Mother to fashion the Seven Heavens,

The Lord used the other half to fashion Earth.

He spoke unto the Angels his desire to create Man in his image.

By mixing the blood of his fallen Creatrix with clay and spit, he fashioned the first couple.

By breathing life into them, they’ve become animated, as the Angels watched,

And out of the whole Heavenly host,

The Lord called to his most beautiful Angel, Azza, so that he may prostrate himself before Man.

Out of disgust, Azza replied: “Father, why should I worship what is lesser than me?”

The refusal was arrogant, and the Lord gazed into the Soul of Azza.

“You will live amongst Men as their equals, in order to teach, or lead them astray.” Said the Lord.

Before Azza could make his case, the Lord turned him into a Pearl, and flung it towards Earth.

As the Pearl fell through time and space,

The Heavenly Host stirred, and some were enraged by the actions of the Great Archon,

Some chose to join their fallen brother, and the night sky was filled with shooting stars.

The pearl fell into a river and was undisturbed for many generations,

Until a fisherman cast his net, and thought himself lucky, he took it home to his wife,

She intuitively knew the pearl was akin to an egg, and it was their duty to protect its divinity.

For, the Father is also the Son, the Projection of the Mother.

Remember!

For the Fisherman’s wife could hear the voice of God, reverberate around her skull!

“This pearl is a divine seed, plant it that it may take root, and grow.”

She told her husband of the message she was given, and voiced her concern.

“My love, are we to plant the pearl in the Earth like the crops of the field?”

He replied, “Of that answer I do not know, perhaps we should consult the Oracles of old?”

“Come my lady, we shall make our way across the Valley of Hallows to meet these strangers.”

And so at Dawn, they left with the clothes on their backs & the curiosity in their hearts.

They knew the journey would be treacherous, twilight lasts but only a moment,

The Sun would be unforgiving once morning made its place.

The fisherman gazed up unto the starry Abyss, praying for protection.

He seemed to look around for a sign of some sort, to no avail.

Only silence.

“Maybe God can’t hear me?” he said with a sheepish look towards his spouse.

“Nonsense! The Great One hears all and answers at his own discretion…”

“You should mind your tongue, lest God lops it off!” She said playfully.

Trudging on, they finally reached the threshold of the Valley of Hallows.

The Fisherman said, “Well my lady, we should set up camp here, that valley is-”

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the ground so violently, everything shook,

Clouds began to form a spiral around the spot, and a purple flame formed at the base,

Fantastic lights blinded the weary couple.

A being with the head of a man and a woman made itself visible in the aftermath.

It had eight wings in total, and creeping eyes on each feather,

This thing had the body of a man, and on each arm lied arcane symbols,

Its feet were as a fowls feet.

As for the likeness of this creature, its aura emanated as coal does while burning,

It illuminated the area as a lamp does a room.

Both heads gazed into the couple.

“Do you intend to strike us with madness??!” The Fisherman said defensively.

“What business do you have with us??” With courage he gazed back at the being.

“I am an emissary of the Heavenly Host, I was sent by the Great Archon.”

“Your kind would refer to me as an Angel.” the being said condescendingly.

“What is your name?” The fisherman’s wife spoke softly.

“The Archon calls me Gabe.” the Angel replied.

“O-oh okay… uh well what message does God bring… Gabe?” She said.

The Angel walked towards them, and the Earth beneath it seemed to bend to its will.

“The task before you is a great one, continue on to seek the Oracles, I must warn you, the perils that lie ahead will test your mind. If you survive, the Oracles will say what to do with the pearl.”

In an instant, the Angel vanished.

“What? That’s it?! Gabe you didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know! Why I oughta-”

The Fisherman caught himself.

“Well let’s see what perils God has in store for us.” He said with a sarcastic glee.

The couple trodded along the beaten path, they could see ghosts all around them,

For this was the Valley of Hallows,

Evil spirits are bound to this valley, and those poor lost souls.

With nothing to lose, and nothing to gain, those who can’t pass on run rampant with madness.

And then again… this is a den for evil humans that love to prey on the weak.

“Lovely scenery huh?” the wife said in a dry tone.

“Yeah, I can smell Beelzebub’s breath from over here… uuuuuhhhhh I’m gonna gag.” he replied

“Why do they look so gruesome?” He said.

“I’ve heard from granny that when people experience traumatic deaths… they stay in the form that they died in. Only sorcerers and witches know the ways of shapeshifting-” She paused.

“Somethings not right…” She cautioned.

They looked at each other.

“Were we always surrounded by men in cloaks?!”  He yelled.

The three thieves revealed they each were armed.

“If ya know what good for ya… hand over your goods.” Demanded one of the thieves.

“Hehehe yeah, we’ll leave you and your pretty little lady alone.” Another one sneered.

“We really don’t have much, but okay… whatever floats your boat.” Said the Fisherman.

“Yeah okay smartass. You’re luck-”

“MY EYESS!!” He screamed.

The thieves were writhing around in agony, each holding their faces.

“Well you took long enough… did God send you with another cryptic message?” He said to Gabe.

“No. I disliked these men. Nothing more, nothing less.” Gabe murmured.

This time the Angel was in the form of a glowing raven, and without saying a word, he flew away.

And at that, the couple could afford no more distractions they continued on.

The valley became narrow as they approached the other end.

A heavy mist engulfed them, and their hearts began to race.

The stench of rotting flesh grew thick.

Heavy footsteps approached.

A monstrosity with 16 eyes on its face towered above them like an obelisk.

Its body was a translucent shadow, and littered with decaying arms.

“Arrrghwwgwgwgwyulweraaa” It snarled.

“Baby. RUN!” The fisherman shouted.

They ran towards the exit as fast as they could, but they remained in place.

No matter how much they exerted, they did not gain distance.

The persistence was useless.

A vortex of black and red revealed a black smoke that moved on its own will.

Another creature, with the head of a wolf, the body of a woman, and the tail of a serpent, came from the smoke.

“Ban! Ban! Ban! I send you away! To the underworld with you!” Said the wolf creature.

“Are you another messenger of god?” The wife questioned.

“Not quite. I am a Demon by the name of Lycantis, an emissary of the Infernal Divine, the Dark One finds you worthy. Otherwise you’d still be trapped in that soul eater’s illusion.”

“Ahahahahhahahaha!!” The Demon roared.

“… Don’t worry, I won’t interfere. But that pearl has both their interests, you two should know by now. Go now, with the blessing of the Mother.”

And the Demon left the way it came.

The couple counted their blessings and made their way.

They found a small encampment and 3 old men staring blankly into the night sky.

“Are they mad?” The Fisherman’s Wife whispered.

“Hohoho, I heard that!” One of the old men cried.

“Why yes, yes we are.” Another old man replied.

“Stop playing, you know why we’re here don’t you?” Said the Fisherman.

“Why yes, yes we do!” They replied in unison.

One of them drew a symbol in the dirt with a stick.

“The dog-star Sirius favors you lot… that pearl of yours needs to be prayed and meditated on for seven days and seven nights, on the seventh night cast the pearl into fire, God will do the rest.”

“Oh, and one more thing, that pearl will bring you two a son. The son of a son. The son of a sun.”

And with that, the wife pulled out the pearl and immediately started praying.

“Keep a campfire on for us…” The fisherman said to the Oracles.

The Fisherman crossed his legs and turned inward, he focused his mind completely on the pearl, infusing his own thought and essence into it.

The Oracles sang their drunken incantations.

And the couple switched between prayer and meditation periodically.

On the seventh night, the full moon bore its face.

The pearl grew hot to the touch,

The fisherman’s wife flung the pearl into the flame and looked on with anticipation.

The pearl was completely blacked, but beams of light came from the pearl and appeared to touch the moon.

The ground shook violently.

And the pearl began to crack.

A glowing infant revealed itself in the flame, unfazed by the heat.

His eyes were brown and his hairy wooly. One of the Oracles carried the child to its guardians.

“In a dream, I was told his name is Azaz…” said the Fisherman’s Wife.

“That his name is… welcome to the family Azaz.”

He picked up Azaz and gazed into his eyes. In it he saw creation & destruction.

First, a look of concern, then a sigh of relief. Azaz’ parents knew things had only just begun.

My myth incorporates themes from the Buddha’s myth, the Bible, and the Enuma Elish. Notably, the section where the parents meditate for 7 days straight was inspired by the Buddha’s dedication to overcoming the self. The biggest theme here is the belief in what is fantastical or divine. Originally, the myth was going to incorporate sections from early childhood and young adult life in order to relate these themes to my life. However, what I have so far is dense enough already, I don’t want to literally write a Bible! I feel like the essence of my personality/self can be found in pretty much all the dialogue of the story, each character represents a different part of my consciousness. The weary Angel that became Azaz is supposed to directly represent me. His immaculate conception (or magical birth) corresponds directly with how magical birth can be and corresponds with the creation that happened in the very beginning. I feel like my parents must’ve experienced a similar journey, full of unknown dangers when I was conceived. In the extender version of the story, Azaz would have became a divine king rather than leaving society like the Buddha did.
