SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Intern will be dedicated to the Transportation department, providing an entry point for students pursing a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Transportation from an accredited university. The accepted candidate for the position will have the opportunity to apply their academic background in both the office and field, and to gain firsthand field related work experience in the various aspects of train, station, and control center operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Rotate through various sub-groups of the Transportation Department
• Attend office meetings, field meetings, and conference calls
• Research, collect and analyze data
• Communicate effectively and professionally with management
• Assist in providing technical, logistical, and administrative support to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects tasks within scope, schedule and budget.
• Become familiar with Transportation safety standards, work procedures, and operating practices in order to perform informed analysis and recommendations.
• Other specific work assignments may be determined based on the needs of the Division assigned to.

EDUCATION:
• Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business or Transportation

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
• Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

•Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be highly organized and have the ability to work productively, be detailed oriented, maintain high level of confidentiality and work with tight deadlines.
• Previous transportation or railroad industry experience
• Specific interest or desire to work in the railroad industry.
• Experience in Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Principal Engineer Survey Technology & Geomatics, this position provides office and field support to AMTRAK field surveying crews. Surveying crews perform calculations, measurement of points, elevations, lines, areas and contours for design, construction or other purposes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assist in the preparation of field surveying information/data packages including data collector transfers, data analysis and entry into preformatted spreadsheets, coordinate lists and worksheet plotting.
• Assists the Sr. Engineer and Land Surveyors to obtain the necessary reference information required for the successful completion of assigned projects and tasks.
• Use company office/civil/survey software for in support of track designs; layout calculations in support of track construction and renewal; record surveys of completed work; boundary line surveys along the railroad right of way.
• Prepare survey exhibits and drawings using company cad software and standards.
• Assist the Principal Engineer Survey Technology & Geomatics, Sr. Engineer and Land Surveyors with final plots and other project deliverables.
• Assist the Principal Engineer Survey Technology & Geomatics, Sr. Engineer and Land Surveyors with organization and maintenance of project files, field work and field folders.
• It is also the responsibility of this position to cross-function as a field surveyor in the event additional field personnel are required to perform surveying activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
• Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Basic knowledge of modern surveying equipment such as electronic total stations, laser scanners, automatic levels and electronic data collectors.
• Basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets and database software.
• Must become qualified in RWP and AMT2
• Basic knowledge of the operation and use of survey instruments, data collection devices and personal computer office programs.
• Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 2 years experience in Civil engineering and/or land surveying.
• Experience in using Microstation CADD software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Candidate must be in good physical condition and pass a pre-employment physical exam
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Prior satisfactory job performance

Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to attract new engineers and to promote careers in railway engineering by providing an entry point for engineers in training. Accepted candidates for the position will have the opportunity to apply their engineering skills in the field and to gain firsthand work experience in the various aspects of railway engineering.

Under the supervision of assigned Engineering Manager(s) the position will:
• Assist in the management and supervision of engineering resources in the field involved in inspection, maintenance, and constructions activities

• Assist in performing engineering surveys, designs, design reviews, and other analyses of fixed railroad infrastructure assets and components to improve reliability and to enhance safety
• Receive instruction on the various Engineering safety standards, work procedures, and operating practices
• Specific work assignments will be determined based on the planned headquarters location and engineering discipline of the selected candidate

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.

• Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.

• Available a minimum of 15 hours per week M-F between the hours of 8a-5p

Minimum KSA’s
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and CADD software

Preferred work experience
• Prior work experience in design, maintenance or construction
