New Online Store

Support the Penn State AWG field camp scholarship by purchasing t-shirts, mugs, stickers, and more! We will be selling AWG merchandise at colloquium and all AWG events. If you are not able to purchase in person, order from our new Etsy store! We have just released new mugs and t-shirts with a brand new design.

mugs: the perfect accessory to your morning meetings, and the eco-friendly way to fill up on coffee whenever you need.

t-shirts: the most effective way to share your style. Look at that sweet block model on the front.

New T-Shirts!

The Association for Women Geoscientists is happy to announce the launch of our BRAND NEW t-shirt designs for 2019 as part of our annual fundraiser for the AWG field camp scholarship. For the past few years AWG has been able to provide financial support for women and under-represented minority students attending Penn State’s field camp. This year we are excited to say that the national AWG chapter has agreed to match our fundraising up to $1,000 – which means that when you purchase a shirt, or a sticker, your money is doubled! See the attached flyer for all your swag options.

You can purchase your AWG swag before all department colloquia this semester, at AWG hosted events, or at any time if you contact Troy Ferland (tmf30@psu.edu), Joanmarie Del Vecchio (joanmarie@psu.edu), or any of your friendly AWG members roaming the halls of Deike. We will soon be re-launching our Etsy store so that friends far and wide can order swag (stay tuned), and we have exciting fundraising events like art classes in the pipeline for the spring.

AWG Brunton Award (UPDATED)

The AWG Brunton Award promotes the future of field mapping and data acquisition for the upcoming generation of women geoscientists. The award will go to a female geoscience student at the senior level or in her early graduate studies who has been a summer intern, excelled at field camp, or performed field data collection that leads to a senior or graduate thesis. The award is funded by Brunton.

General Information:

The award is an engraved Brunton transit.
A one‐year membership is sponsored by AWG.
Application Deadline: November 15th

Requirements:

Performed field work an essential component of a senior thesis, summer internship, field camp, graduate thesis or other types of field projects
Have future plans to continue in the geosciences, with fieldwork as an integral part of graduate degree or career.
Promote the fundamental value and need for field‐based studies within the geoscience profession through project results, quality of work, and capabilities of applicant

Application:

Cover letter
Description of research project, internship, field camp experience, or summer field experience including a sample of work, which may include a report, map, photos, and/or model based on collected data (not to exceed 4 pages).
Statement of future interests and career goals as related to field work and/or resume
Letter of recommendation from the primary field mentor

Selection Committee:

The selection committee consists of AWG members with varied and significant field experience, who are committed to promoting field data acquisition methodologies among geoscience students – our future professional geoscientists.
